Polka Dots – Summer must have

Polka dots items are making a comeback this summer. This print is an easy go to clothing at any time. The versatility of this design makes it perfect for a wide range of occasions; from formal and corporate wears to lounge and beach pieces. Items made of this motif don’t completely go out of fashion so they are truly a necessary wardrobe staple.


A statement polka dot dress can provide an easy access to a memorable ensemble. With this trend you can easily dress up or down at any time. In this timeless pattern, you can dress down in sneakers, sandals and flats for a casual meet up with friends and at the weekend or when you wear it with black pants or skirt and heels it gives you an office vibe. Weddings are a great occasion to showcase your chic taste dressing up in polka dots.

Since the fifties when Hollywood royalty from Marilyn Munroe donned this pattern to Zoe Kravitz and a host of other stars everyone has worn a spotty outfit.
When you wear pieces with spots of different diameters, base it on your body proportions. Dress your lower body in the bigger dots piece if you are curviest there and your upper torso in the smaller dots piece; and the reverse if you have bigger bust and narrower hips.

The colours can contrast but they should coordinate.

You can style polka dots in different contrasting ways and still retain your fashionable self. However, don’t stretch the dressing in this motif too far off if you want to avoid looking childish and clownish.

It is fashionable to wear outfits in polka dots which have two different sizes of spots. Make sure the colours and shapes of the print match. By creative with complementary colours like lilac top and royal blue bottoms dotty fabrics. The simplest and most popular mix and match, is the global black dots on a white top piece and white dots on a black bottom piece.

In this era of sustainable clothing you’re still fabulous when you wear polka dots items that you’ve had over the years. So bring out those pieces you consigned to the back of the closet. Give it a refresh look by making a few tweaks to the dress and matching it with bold red accessories or a tan pair of heels.

A green and white polka dots dressing would go well with accessories in neutrals like a grey scarf, brown earthy jewelry. Polka dots are versatile, and white and black just take the icing as you can combine this with almost any color.
