Every or most women love makeup and hope to always get it right when applying them. Some even make researches and find “tips” to make the application easier and faster. But how effective, true and safe are these “tips”. Find out and get enlightened about how some of these “tips” might have been mixed up with myths and facts.
MYTH: Make-up is bad for your skin
FACT: This particular myth is very relatable for me because I actually used to believe this until research and science proved that, your skin ageing, having patchiness and wrinkles, has to do with biology, stress, environmental factors and even other things but not make-up. If you have ever wondered about this and was even worried, develop a good skincare routine and healthy diet instead. Make-up itself is NOT bad for your skin.
MTYH: Make-up cannot expireFACT: Again, I wonder why I thought this, but it is absolutely false. Be aware that your make-up, has a shelf life that begins once the seal is broken, and this information is always at the back of your make-up product. If the expiry information is not clear, replace your make-up 6-12 months after the seal has been broken. Once it is past its expiry duration, the components of the makeup product, becomes harmful to your skin. So, make-up CAN expire
MYTH: When you wear make-up, you do not need sunscreen
FACT: while it is true that most products contain SPF, know that the SPF in make-up wears off 10-15 minutes after application. The reason is because the effectiveness of SPF in moisturizers and make-up products is not as strong due to the components that make up these products. To be safe and covered, make sure to wear sunscreen before applying your make-up. After all, you DO need sunscreen to keep your skin protected from the sun.
MYTH: You don’t need to take off your make-up before going to bed.
FACT: The harmful result of this is very dangerous for your skin because when we sleep, our skin moisturizes, regenerates and becomes fresher. But leaving make-up on your face, disrupts the process, clogs your pores which can lead to skin dehydration, infection and breakouts. It is very important to always wipe off make-up before going to bed.
MYTH: Red lipstick isn’t a lipstick color for everyoneFACT: I find this myth particularly interesting because of how realistically false it is. There are so many shades of red lipstick and all you have to do is look for the one that suits your skin tone. Once you have, you also can wear red lipstick just like everyone else.
MYTH: Designer/ expensive make-up is better
FACT: In some cases, going for the designer/ expensive option might be better, but in the case of make-up, the components/ ingredients for many make-up products are more or less the same. The expensive products would work and so would the cheaper options.
MYTH: Lip plumpers would give my lips the “lasting fuller lips” effect I want
FACT: While most people think lip plumper is an aid to getting fuller lips, it is actually not. What it gives you, is an irritated and swollen lip because it contains hot pepper, caffeine, menthol and cinnamon. Only lip augmentation done with hyaluronic acid fillers can change thinner lips to fuller lips which would give a more lasting solution.
Make sure to put these as guidelines for yourself as you continue your make-up journey. Most importantly, always take good care of your skin, stay hydrated, eat and live healthy always.
